So here is my review for the month of November, 2017

  • November Goals Results

1. Improve my Korean by learning more advanced business vocabulary before I start my Trade academy course on November 20th: I probably studied pretty hard for like a week and then just did some studying here and there. The crazy thing was that I understood the Korean lectures a lot better than expected. My Korean is better than I thought, I guess that goes for all people when they think of their language skills. And like always, I always got ahead of myself and said that I would read such and such, when in fact I didn’t. Well, as they say, shoot for the moon and you’ll be amongst the stars.

2. Make a marketing campaign for Pepero Day (Blog post, front page of website, social media posts: I did not create a blog post, but I did change the featured products on the main page and we created one new product for Pepero day which people actually ordered. I also posted pictures related to pepero day. We did get more sales this year than last year for Pepero day, so that’s good.

3. Publish one podcast a week: I don’t even know why I made this a goal. I didn’t make any podcasts this month! Honestly, I love recording podcasts, but I guess I haven’t made it a priority recently. There were times this month when I wanted to create a podcast, but something always came up!

4. Reach $12,000 in sales. A little higher because of Pepero Day.: The month of November started off very well. The first few days were amazing, the best start of a month ever! And Pepero day wasn’t bad, but could have been better. But things really slowed down towards the end of the month. Maybe we weren’t marketing enough or commenting online enough, but yeah, we didn’t reach our goal….too bad! I honestly thought we were going to exceed our goal during the first half of the month, but it didn’t happen. But we obviously passed our minimum and we did better than last month, so that should give you a pretty good idea as to how much we made in sales. I don’t like giving exact numbers of my ongoing businesses that my wife is a part of because that makes her feel uncomfortable. And at the moment, she is a part of all of my businesses! Well, I technically only have one, but we are working on the trade business together.

5. Improve website functionality: Search function and Checkout page: I was encouraged to improve certain aspects of the website when I received feedback from a customer. But I didn’t get to it. I don’t know, I guess I’m okay with how things are. Why is that? I don’t know, but it is what it is.

6. Have everything prepared as in advance as possible: Materials for products, Pre-made cards, etc: We have not pre-made as many cards as we should have. We definitely have to make sure it is all done way before Valentine’s Day because Valentine’s Day gets really crazy.

  • Other November News

My wife and I are maintaining our Flower Business. The business is quite steady. The hardest part about our business is that it is all sales, so some days can be tough while other days can be amazing. But things have been pretty good these last few months and I expect things to get better in the coming months since there are more “celebration” days. I also completed the trade academy course, which was so useful. It was a free course for foreigners in Korea. And I literally would have paid at least $500 for what I learned. Of course there are a lot of things you can self-teach yourself, but the little bits of experience and advice people with experience share is priceless. It’s amazing how there are a lot of things like this available, yet people don’t take advantage of them. In the end, the best way to learn something is by doing it or by paying for it. That’s why I am a firm believer that paying to learn something is the best way to learn, especially if you can afford to do so. If not, you may not be hungry/desperate enough to really learn what you are learning. Also, I was able to meet 20 other people who are interested in trade who are from all parts of the world. November was a good month in terms of learning, networking and new possibilities, but sales weren’t as great as I hoped for.

  • Other Businesses and Projects

Currently, the only other business I am focusing on is my new trade business. The business will be under my name and I have a lot of plans already. I will be registering my trade business some time next week and will be creating online profiles on various websites. And I will be creating my trade business website as well. But my website is currently on hold and will probably be on hold for awhile. I may still record some podcasts time to time when I have something on my mind to share, but yeah, I already got a lot on my plate! And I will create at least 2 pieces of content for this website in December.

  • Thoughts, Goals and The Big Picture for December 2017

I’m really excited for December because Flower Gift Korea is at a place where it is relatively stable. And the best part is that it is not too difficult too maintain, which gives me the opportunity to work on side businesses. It’s funny because Flower Gift Korea was a side business while I was running IGL English. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make IGL into a business that I could just manage without my involvement, but I do plan on creating a Hagwon (or hagwons) in the future that will run without my involvement. The best thing about Flower Gift Korea is that I can easily hire people to deliver the flowers, make the flowers and do customer service. So this means I can create other businesses! And I am truly excited to dive into exporting goods made in Korea. Once I am able to export some goods, I may even do some importing. We’ll see. I really think trade is something I am a better fit for. But I am so glad I started Flower Gift Korea because I can use Flower Gift Korea to show people that I am someone in Korea they can trust. One thing truly leads to another, so the most important thing to do is to start something!

December 2017 Goals:

  1. Establish my trade business by registering it as a legal business and become part of some trade organizations in Korea.
  2. Create a website, an Alibaba account, and accounts on other B2B platform websites.
  3. Meet my supplier of goods and come to an agreement on prices for the goods.
  4. Reach $12,000 in sales. A little higher because of Christmas.
  5. Add the picture product, stuffed toy products, and new flower designs to
  6. Have everything prepared as in advance as possible: Materials for products, Pre-made cards, etc.

I need to make sure that I do everything I can to maintain Flower Gift Korea and create some growth while starting my trade business. I want to maintain the quality of Flower Gift Korea. It is very important because my customers depend on us. The good thing is that my trade business does not include a lot of responsibilities. I just need to be looking for suppliers and buyers through the Internet. It seems really simple, but I don’t know yet. I’ll let you know how everything goes in the near future! I’m excited for December and 2018! And don’t forget, do something! Take action!
