So here is my review for the month of August, 2017

  • August Goals Results

1. Go to at least 3-4 networking events and hand out at least 50 Flower Gift Korea business cards to 50 different people before the end of the month: I was at a total of 3 networking events. One was held at the Seoul Global Startup Center and I was able to network with some people in Seoul. It was nice to go, but it wasn’t easy networking there since a lot of the people there weren’t really there to network, or maybe they were and just felt comfortable chatting to the same two people the whole networking time. But I still managed to meet close to 10 different people there and handed them my business card. The second event was a Seoul Real Estate Meetup. It wasn’t really a networking event, but more of a seminar type event. Nonetheless, I was still able to meet 6-8 different people at the event and handed out my business card. The last event was held at Flower Gift Korea and it was a networking event for people in the Hagwon industry. I already knew a few of the people who came out, but I was still able to meet a bunch of people I never met before. I wasn’t able to give out my business card to anybody, but hey, they ended up inside Flower Gift Korea, so that was enough marketing for Flower Gift Korea. I didn’t reach my goal of meeting 50 different people for the month of August, but I am still satisfied with the result. I still don’t know if going to the networking events are worth the travel time and the effort to approach people who may be there because of a friend or because they are part of the venue (startup space). But I know that it never hurts to grow your network. We’ll see how many networking events I will attend for the month of September..

2. Create pre-scheduled blog posts for FlowerGiftKorea.com and EntrepreneurKorea.com: I have started to create pre-scheduled posts for this website and Flower Gift Korea. I try to have at least 2 blogs pre-scheduled at a time, but I sometimes fall behind. And the monthly review post cannot really be made too in advance since it is a reflection of the previous month, but I do my best to stay ahead of my blog post schedule. At the moment, I publish a weekly blog post for both of these websites. I also create podcasts for hagwonstart.com time to time, but not all the time, just went something is worth mentioning.

3. Make my Kpop website “Good Enough”: To be very honest, I only made my kpop website to the minimal. My kpop website is www.kpopvisit.com which at the moment is a directory of the Kpop agencies in Korea. There aren’t that many entries, but I do have entries of all of the main ones. And it has been quite useful as I have been able to direct fan customers who want to send something to celebrities in Korea. But I originally was going to try to create a community, but I realized how much work that would be and put it on hold for now, especially since I don’t know which way to go with the whole website functions, layout, etc. So for now, it’s just a directory of the agencies in Korea, but I do hope to add more information, I just don’t know exactly what at the moment.

4. Reach $10,000 US in sales (Pass Minimum $5,000 US): The month of August was off to a slow start, so I didn’t think much of the month. Though it was slow at first, orders consistently came in and we had some days that were really good. To our surprise, we were able to pass our minimum at around or a little after the midpoint mark of August. This was amazing because August is the summer vacation month of Korea, so a lot of people in our neighborhood were away and it was really dead around our shop, even for a quiet area like ours. But we kept getting orders and had a few more really good days and reached our goal of $10,000 US sales!! Yes!! This is the first time in awhile that we were able to reach our sales target! This means that our client base is growing and growing, and we are getting repeat purchases from certain customers.

And something I want to mention is that 95% of our sales came from orders made online! So it goes to show how important it is to learn how to market online and make sales. You can make a great lifestyle for yourself if you learn about tools you can use and how to use them. I look forward to creating more content about how to do what I do in the near future.

5. Hold a 5 Star Raffle Prize draw for Flower Gift Korea Customers: We held another 5 Star Raffle prize draw. You can see a blog post about it at 5 Star Raffle Prize Draw August 2017. Brandy and I were less nervous doing it this time and it was a lot of fun. We gave away a stuffed toy, a gift box, a real flower soju gift set, and two $50 gift certificates! The craziest thing about the raffle prize draw was that we had a total of 17 different people tune-in to our live instagram broadcast, which was unannounced! Maybe we should start announcing when they will happen in case more people want to watch them.

  • Other August News

I have been pretty consistent with my morning check-ins though I missed 1 or 2 of them. The morning check-ins are great and I noticed a big difference when I did them and didn’t do them. A morning check-in really helps me start the day right.

  • Other Businesses and Projects

Hagwonstart.com is still accessible and I recently created a podcast episode. And I plan on holding a meetup for Hagwonstart.com members in late September, so that’s something I look forward to planning and executing. I’ll let you know how that turns out!

  • Thoughts, Goals and The Big Picture for September 2017

August was a pretty good month, better than I expected it to be. My wife and I decided to unplug our television, which helped us become more productive when we are at home. And I was able to do some networking. Though the weather was pretty hot at times, business wise and networking wise, August was pretty good! I also have been listening to the Checklist Manifesto, which is basically a book that explains how important checklists are, so we are going to find ways to implement some checklists at Flower Gift Korea. Well, let’s see what my goals for September 2017 are:

  1. Continue to build my network: New networking efforts online and 2 or 3 networking events
  2. Create order/delivery checklists for Flower Gift Korea
  3. Upload new products to Flower Gift Korea and upgrade product photos
  4. Reach $11,000 US in sales
  5. Plan and hold a successful meetup for my Hagonstart.com members

I guess the big picture for this month is to get a start on really systemizing and doing work that will help Flower Gift Korea become an actual business outside my wife and I. We decided that we are going to create a printable catalogue of our products, create employee manuals, systemize our business, etc. even though we currently do not have any employees. As Flower Gift Korea grows and the amount of orders we receive increases, we will be forced to hire help and we realized that we need to prepare for that now. Also, I’m going to keep growing my network because it’s always important to meet new people as an entrepreneur. So I still haven’t figured out which networking events I will attend, but I will attend some, and I will figure out how to network online as well.

I’m looking forward to September because I love September weather! And also, Flower Gift Korea is growing and I am going to meet some of the hagwonstart.com members for the first time! So I look forward to helping them get started with their business in Korea. And if you are thinking of starting your own business one day, go for it. It’s never too late to start.
